The Basics of Poker
The game of Poker is played by players using poker chips, which are typically provided to the players before the game begins. Poker chips are valued in different ways: white chip is worth one cent, red chip is worth ten cents, blue chip is worth twenty cents, and so on. Each player “buys in” to the game by purchasing chips. Depending on where the dealer sits, there are different betting rules. To play, players should place at least two chips into the pot.
The highest ranking hand in poker is called the royal flush. It is made up of three cards of one rank and two cards of another. It can also contain a Jack, Queen, or King. This hand cannot be beaten by any other royal flush, as long as it is of the same suit. Another hand is called the straight flush. This is a hand that has four cards of the same rank. It is called a “royal flush” when it includes a pair of aces.
A full 52-card deck is used in most games. Most games use four of each card, based on its suit. However, most people prefer to play with chips instead of cash. Using chips is easier to track, count, and make change with than using coins or bills. Moreover, it is more convenient to exchange chips than to use cash when playing poker. This is also the reason why players often trade chips rather than money. A single chip can represent a certain dollar amount.
